Rochester City Delivery – Serving Rochester and the Continental U.S.
The Stoppel Family of Rochester founded Rochester City Delivery in 1915 when Erwin Stoppel began making deliveries for area merchants using horses and wagons.
Two decades later, Roy Kothenbeutel saw that there was ample demand for this type of service throughout Rochester and the surrounding area and in 1936 started up his own retail delivery business. He competed with Rochester City Delivery for sixteen years until 1952 when Erwin Stoppel decided to sell his delivery business—at which point Roy purchased it and made it his own. One of Roy’s first decisions as the new owner of Rochester City Delivery was to hire his son, Luverne (aka Codey). They operated it together for the next 10 years.
Codey purchased the business in 1962 when Roy retired. Codey has continued to own and operate Rochester City Delivery ever since. He has been instrumental in bringing the once-small package delivery company to its current size of 26 trucks and 42 employees. The company is still growing with new routes being added daily.
Rochester City Delivery’s fleet now travels around not only the city and surrounding area, but all the way across the continental U.S.
Rochester City Delivery (or RCD, as they are often referred to) is truly a family organization, with Codey and his wife Belva both working in the business, as well as their two daughters Ladonne Kothenbeutel and JoAnn Keefe. JoAnn’s husband Irving is the Business Manager and Codey’s two grandsons Kasey Keefe and Mickey Keefe oversee the dispatch room. Brother-in-law Bob Wichser rounds out the ‘family’ atmosphere. In addition, RCD also has an excellent dispatch team, a master mechanic, experienced over the road drivers, a dedicated administrative staff, and remarkably loyal customers.
